5 tools to prepare your dog's flight

Preparing a flight with a dog always comes back to the same questions: which crate, what risk in which season, which papers for which country, and where to walk the dog during a connection. These 5 tools each answer one of them, free and with no account to create.

They all run on the same database as the rest of the site, the one where every rule carries its official source and its verification date. A tool computing on unverifiable data gives a reassuring, wrong answer; these prefer to say "to confirm" when the source does not settle the question.

What these tools compute, and on what material

The flight comparison uses the rules of 102 airlines, the entry-requirements tool covers 121 documented countries, and the crate calculator draws on 172 reference breeds. They all use the same data as the site's pages, regenerated with each publication; this does not mean that every source has been checked again.

Crate size is based on your dog's measurements while standing, not on breed alone, since two dogs of the same breed may need different sizes. The 172 reference breeds provide an initial indication of size, but do not replace your dog's own measurements.

The heat-risk calculator crosses your route with the seasonal embargoes airlines publish — 6 carry one — and with what IATA advises for snub-nosed dogs in hot season. The 22 brachycephalic breeds in the reference are flagged there, because they are the ones the question arises for first.

Pet relief areas checked one by one, including where there are none

The tool covers 268 airports across 108 countries. A dedicated pet relief area has been confirmed at 74 of these airports, with 243 precisely located areas across 31 countries; for 57 other airports, the research concluded that there was no dedicated area.

Knowing whether an airport has a dedicated pet relief area helps when planning a long connection. The tool distinguishes airports where the research concluded that there was no dedicated area from those where facilities remain unknown: missing information does not prove that an area does not exist.

These tools report what official sources said on the date they were consulted, to help you prepare your trip. They do not replace confirmation from the airline and the destination country's authorities, which determine the conditions for transporting your dog and allowing it to enter the country.

The site's tools: common questions

Are these tools really free?

Yes, all 5 of them, with no account to create and no usage limit. You can compare as many routes, airlines and destinations as you need.

What travel crate size should I choose for my dog?

It is calculated on your dog's measurements standing up — length, height at the withers, height of the ears — and not on its breed. The crate calculator applies those measurements to the standard air-transport sizes. The 172 reference breeds only place a starting size band: two dogs of the same breed can call for two different sizes.

How do I know whether my dog is at risk from heat in the hold?

The heat-risk calculator crosses your route and season with the embargoes airlines publish — 6 apply one — and with what IATA advises for snub-nosed dogs in hot weather. 22 breeds in the reference are marked brachycephalic.

Where can I find a dog relief area in an airport?

The tool lists 243 confirmed locations across 74 airports in 31 countries, with their position in the terminal. It also names the 57 airports where the search concluded no relief area exists — just as useful before booking a long connection.

Will the tools tell me whether my airline will accept my dog?

The comparison queries 102 airlines and gives you, for each, the quoted official sentence and its date. But acceptance does not rest on the airline alone: the destination country applies its own entry rules, and a national ban cannot be worked around by changing carrier. The tool shows you both.

How often is the data verified?

Every rule carries its own verification date, visible on the relevant page, and a review date beyond which it is flagged as due. The most recent verification in the database is dated October 31, 2026.

Answers drawn from the rules published on this site with their source, last verified on October 31, 2026. Before booking a flight, confirm with your airline and with the authorities of the destination country.
